| From the
backwoods of Vermont, to the western shores of
Washington, and from the high Andes of Peru to deep into the wilds of
Alaska, Josh finds inspiration in what is overlooked, the simple things that
blanket the earth. He is fascinated by how we perceive reality and how that
perception determines what we see. Josh seeks the poetry of our landscape;
an imagery he hopes to convey through his photography. Josh Axelrod's vision of becoming a photographer started at a young age. At 15 he hiked and explored 600 miles of the northern Appalachian Trail. Four years later in Alaska, Josh built a remote battery powered darkroom on wheels which provided only four hours of printing at a time, but his creativity soared. It was in Alaska that he sold his first image, but not until years later, after building new confidence and skills at the Rocky Mountain School of Photography, did Josh fully expose his work to the public in Washington, D.C. The positive response encouraged his career as a photographer and since 2001 he has been actively selling his work nationally through galleries and art festivals. Josh completes his fine art photographs with handcrafted antique wood frames. He matches the grain, texture and character of each frame he builds to complement each individual photograph. Josh's work may be seen at his studio/gallery in Middletown Springs, VT, at the three Vermont State Craft Centers, and at many art festivals across the country. |
