| Karen Klinefelter is a
Vermont born artist who began working in metals as an apprentice nearly 20 years
ago. After a long-term position as assistant to award-winning jewelry
designer, Timothy Grannis, she established her own studio in 1999. Her
jewelry is based primarily on patterns and textures both naturally occurring
and man-made. She counts among her inspirations Japanese art and
architecture, Buddhist philosophy and visual images captured during third
world travel. Time spent in the studio is intentionally playful and curious. It often consists of creating collages of several elements, then breaking the complex designs down into their simplest, strongest components revealing the final design. "I started out creating jewelry for myself. My life is active and outdoors as much as possible. I want pieces that are easy and comfortable, yet unique. They need to go everywhere I do. I don't want to be taking them off for a yoga class or a ski. I'd like to make everyone's favorite pair of earrings!" |
