| Of all hand printing
techniques, lithography most honors the range of expression in the
draftsman's hands. My own images are printed using both classic and
experimental techniques from this tradition. Many are hand-printed stone
lithographs in limited edition of no more than 50 prints. My main guides from the Western tradition have been the natural history and landscape artists of the 18th and 19th centuries. A second stream of influence has been the Chinese and Japanese landscape master artists of black and white landscapes. My own prints echo these traditions whose works aimed to inspire spiritual communion by careful and loving presentations of the natural world. I offer these prints as gestures on behalf of the misused and obliterated places which have been my solace and inspiration. Davis Te Selle attended California College of Arts and Crafts and holds an M.F.A. in printmaking from San Francisco Art Institute. He has shown his work in group and solo exhibitions on both east and west coasts. Inquires welcome; studio visits by appointment. |
