| Joe retired in 2000 and after working a lifetime needed something to occupy his newly found free time. Since it seemed that he had been going in circles all his life, he thought he should keep with the pattern and decided to make hand crafted wooden bowls. He took some pieces of machinery he had on hand and created a new machine to make his bowls. He cut his first bowl in 2003. After that there was no end to the creative process. Sanding, drying, working with different woods, experimenting with new designs like scroll work, scalloping bowl tops, fluting, engraving, adding bases for a more stable bowl...all of these ideas just kept coming. Actualizing his designs is a constant challenge. He had no formal education in the art of bowl making...just the creative desire in his own mind. In late spring 2007, he opened his bowl shop on East Clarendon Road in North Clarendon,Vt. |
