Julia Emilo

Painted Gourd Ornaments/Up-cycled Elf Slippers

Julia Emilo is a life-long artist who works in her home in East Middlebury, Vermont.

As a child she created clay sculptures, knitted troll clothing, made papier mache animals, and painted batik wall hangings. Her mother was her inspiration, as she was also a self-trained artist. In high school Emilo participated in many art and craft classes.

In 1992 Emilo began creating and selling her gourd ornaments throughout New England and beyond in juried craft shows, art galleries, gift shops and catalogs.

All of her gourds are dried, sanded and cleaned. Each piece displays one of her original designs and is painted free-hand with acrylics. For added protection, each piece is finished with clear satin polyurethane.

In 2013, I began creating up-cycled Elf Slippers from recycled sweaters andn polar fleece. They have been very popular for fall shoppers thinking of the holiday season.
